Books and Book Reviews

  1. 'Where Have All The Leaders Gone?’ - One of the greatest professional business leaders of the twentieth century is Mr. Lee Iacocca. He is 82 years old now. It is important that leaders have integrity. Unfortunately, the modern leaders, be it business or political lack that. Mr. Iacocca is a straight talker in a society where very few mean what they say and say what they mean. He has written a book as titled above.
  2. Blue Ocean Strategy - I have always learnt something new which I was not aware of. Unfortunately, it was not so as far as this book is concerned. What the authors have said has been said many times earlier. If people want to read one of the best books on tactics and strategy, I would recommend that they read the book "Tactics" by Dr. Edward de Bono. He is the propounder of the concept of Lateral Thinking
  3. Level 5 Leadership - One of the very good books I came across on management and leadership is by Mr. Jim Collins titled 'Good to Great'* published in 2001. He and his team of researchers studied various companies and found out characteristics of leaders and classified them from the lowest Level 1 to Level 5, being the highest level.
  4. The Toyota Way - The book ‘The Toyota Way’ explains the management principle and business philosophy behind Toyota ’s success. It narrates Toyota 's approach to Lean Production (known as the Toyota Production System) and the 14 principles that drive Toyota towards quality and excellence.
  5. First break all rules - One of the best selling books in the beginning of this millennium was "First break all the rules' by Marcus Buckingham and Curt Coffman of the Gallup organization. The authors carried out a great amount of research and recorded on how world's good and great managers look at things and handle them.
  6. What is Friendship Branding - The term 'Friendship Branding' was coined and popularized by Ms. Lois Geller in her book "Customer for Keeps". It is all about customer service and customer relationship building.
  7. Tactics - The art and science of success - In January 1991, I bought the book, as titled above, by Dr. Edward de Bono, at Bombay airport. The paperback was priced 4.95 sterling pounds and I do not remember its Indian rupee equivalent. It probably is one of the best investments I have ever made. I have made it a habit to go through it at least once in a year. For conceptual clarity, there is no better book
