The
10 Commandments for Success at Workplace
'Seyyum Thozhile Deivam' - Tamil Proverb - Translated for
Non Tamil Knowing Readers - Your Job is your God
You should love your work however small and lowly it may be.
Money is only the by-product of your efforts. If making
money is the sole aim then be prepared for failure as it
will cloud your vision. To quote Abraham Maslow " It is
better to make a first class soup than a second class
painting" . Yes money is important but, success is not
all about making money. Success is being at peace with
yourself and the world. However, it has been found that
success attracts money but not the other way around
-
You should
be principled to be successful in any field
-
You should
have a strong goal oriented and ethical work culture
-
You should
know who your customer is. If you are employed then your
boss is your customer. If you do not like and get along
well with your boss then you have only one choice. You
cannot change your boss but you can change your job.
However, there is no guarantee that the new boss will be
better. We have another old Tamil proverb which says
"Distant grass always looks green".
-
Quit only
if you must
-
You cannot
satisfy everybody. When you try to satisfy everybody,
you end up satisfying nobody. You are not in popularity
contest at workplace
-
You should
be a good communicator. You should ensure that
communication goes down and up the line, unfiltered and
undistorted, by insisting on feedback
-
Keep your
business processes short and simple.
-
Keep
Innovating and look for new ways of doing things.
According to Albert Einstein "Definition of
insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and
expecting a new result ". If this is true, then all
successful people are insane because they never give up
trying again and again
-
You should
provide Leadership by living up to the principles and
values. No point in preaching what you do not practice
-
Don't lose
heart and give up. Failures are stepping stones to
success. You may have temporary setbacks, even if you
follow the above, but you will achieve success in the
long run.
